Hi Everyone! Florida Follies Celebrate provided an invigorating experience for the members and friends who attended the March 14 performance. What was the added plus? Knowing that our ticket purchases aided the Follies in attaining their 10th Anniversary goal, $100,000.00 for their kids' charities! Josephine Walker and I joked about starting a BCREA dance team; everyone agreed that watching those 60-92-year-old women "kick-up-their-heels" made us feel guilty about our lack of activity and inspired us to go home and get moving. Below are some photos of those who attended.
On March 21, Margarite Falconer and I attended the unveiling of the 2010-2011 Broward cultural season at the BCPA. We are looking for a good jazz/Dixieland performance for our music event - let me know what you know! Laffing Matterz could be a fun dinner/theatre event and we are looking at Burn the Floor (a tribute to ballroom dance ala Astaire & Rogers). Please provide input about these suggestions and anything you think would make a worthy event for BCREA. I will continue to publicize art events for your information and attendance. Don’t forget our goal, to get our members to participate with BCREA in one art, one dance, one music and one theatre event each year. We have made great strides annually but we have a long way to go so… climb on the Cultural Activity wagon and reap the rewards! Thank you to the 25 who purchased tickets to SUDS on Saturday, April 17 at the Broward Stage Door Theatre. I hoped we'd outdo ourselves and sell a double order of 40 tickets but that lofty goal will have to wait for next season! Those who attended are pictured below.
Drowsy Chaperone is a come-out-feelin'-good musical that plays at the Broward Stage Door Theatre June 11 - July 25, 2010. I highly recommend the show; make a day of it with lunch/dinner for you and your family/friends. For ticket information call 954-344-7765. A few attendees made me aware of the SunTrust Sunday Jazz Brunch - Downtown Fort Lauderdale’s Riverwalk becomes a jazz domain on the first Sunday each month with multiple stages along historic New River. Picnic baskets, blankets, chairs, dogs and children add to festivities. Call (954) 828-5363 for more information. This year the display for theState Assembly in May was to showcase the talents of you, our members! Newly installed BCREA President Margarite Falconer took the items to the assembly in St. Petersburg on May 26 - 28. I provided a homemade "tea cozy," Margarite provided a sampling of her handmade jewelry; Bev Hoppe contributed a display of her own greeting cards and her photos. And of course, we had the outstanding club scrapbook created for the third year by Margarite.Next year's scrapbook will be done by Mel Wenig. Thanks, Mel, for taking over the job! Since no one has offered to fill the Cultural Affairs Chair for 2010-2011, I will do my best to arrange for one more season of events. I hope to actually get to attend all of the events I plan in the future; sometimes life gets in the way! Have a wonderful summer, share your ideas with me before September 2010 (e-mail, write, or call), and join in! My e-mail: dramama51@bellsouth.net Phones: Home -954-753-1258; Cell - 954-849-5512.
